Last Friday we went to Brick & Liquor in Tooting. It’s a small cocktail bar set up by two guys who have a history of running successful bars/restaurants in central London. After some deliberation about where to open their very own bar, they landed on the up and coming area of Tooting, as they felt it fitted their vision. The bar is true to its name, as the interior is all exposed brickwork and there was plenty of liquor behind the bar!
We sampled some of the Christmas special cocktails to start – my personal favourite out of these three was the ‘Mulling it Over’ which was a strong one but just what you need over the Xmas period. The bar also does some ‘social eats’ and we were lucky enough to try the Xmas sharing platter – a carnivore’s delight! It was meant for four but I’m not ashamed to say that the two of us polished it off (haha). The food was really good and a great complement to the drinks.
We then moved onto the cocktails on the normal menu to see what to expect outside the festive period. We were not disappointed – we tried a good mix as I prefer a strong/bitter taste while friend James is more into sweet cocktails. I would personally recommend the ‘The Salted Caramel Old Fashioned’ consisting of bourbon, salted caramel, Angostura orange and bitters.
Prices for cocktails are £8-9.00 with a small but well-chosen selection of beers and wines (from £22) also available. Social eats, such as cod goujons and skinny fries, pork belly bites or cauliflower cous-cous are £6 a small plate and £10 large. The meat sharing platter is £22 while the veggie one is £18.
A great place to start a Friday night and well worth a visit, Brick & Liquor could easily become your go-to neighbourhood bar!
