The Camberwell Fair returns to Camberwell Green on Saturday 25th July. The event will be a huge celebration of Camberwell’s diverse mix of people, music and culture. There will be two music stages, local businesses running pop-up shops, a street food market and games and workshops for the whole family to enjoy. Are you going to Camberwell Fair?
The Wormfood Stage will showcase performers who have been inspired by music from all over the world. This includes performances by Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra, Dawn Penn and The Turbans. Across the Green, the Community Stage will be showcasing solely local talent. There will be over 30 performers including rappers, musicians and a tribute to the late great Camberwell poet Christopher Logue.
Many of Camberwell’s local businesses have been given the opportunity to host a pop-up stall at the Camberwell Fair. The result is a mix of restaurants, market traders, barbers, beauty salons, art shops… there will even be legal consultants in attendance. I’m tossing up between a scotch egg from Pig and Hay or a bit of smoked salmon from Pished Fish… who am I kidding?! There will be room for both!
One great thing that the local businesses are doing is offering a discount to their stores/shops for a month after the fair just by showing your wristband. And that’s not just the stores who are hosting pop-ups – some of the businesses that can’t make it on the day are getting involved too.
Thanks to funding from Southwark Council (the High Street Challenge), Arts Council England and Global Local, as well as sponsorship from Lebara Mobile and Gareth James estate agents, the event is entirely free. You can register for you ticket online here. If you want your support to go a bit further then you can become a member by donating to the Crowdfunder campaign. This will guarantee you priority entry, a free cocktail and a spot in a member’s only area.
