Here in South East London, we’re already spoiled for choice with exquisite food markets, from the hugely popular Borough Market, to the foodie insider’s Maltby Street Market. This July, an intriguing new market has launched on Bermondsey’s Druid St (www.druid.st), joining the area’s many outstanding breweries, bars and restaurants, whilst bringing its own inimitable flair to Saturday trading.
The market runs along an existing row of historic arches housing breweries, bakeries and delicatessens and will bring its own flavour to the area; Druid St is committed to supporting local business and community, as well as complementing the surrounding markets and their traders.
Founded by the brilliant Miranda York, Editor of TOAST Magazine who has experience with curating engaging and vibrant London markets, Druid St is right around the corner from Maltby and Borough Markets, but will bring its own flavour to the area and is committed to supporting local business and community, as well as complementing the existing markets. From New Orleans Beignets & black coffee plus friend cajun oysters from Decatur to the finest meats from 8th generation Irish butchers O’Sheas, chinotto from Lardo to SPAM toasties from F.A..T by Freddie (of Lyle’s), salted caramel peanut butter from Fatties Bakery and American style ice cream sandwiches from Blu Top Ice Cream (think Builder’s Tea Ice Cream!), there’ll be something to whet your appetite, whilst fruit, veg, butter, cheese, and milk will all be available for the weekly shop!
Visitors won’t go thirsty either, with Anspach and Hobday and The Bottle Shop providing the craft brews and for those wanting to take home a quality Sunday morning read, TOAST will have its own stall, with the magazine and a curated selection of homewares including Lazy Eye ceramics, wooden spoons by Hope in the Woods and beautiful anodised aluminium trays from Kaymet.
With a mission to create an internationally-recognised food market focused on exceptional quality and innovation Druid St will also support entrepreneurs and help new food businesses to flourish. There will be a revolving weekly stall to showcase the very best of London’s exciting food start up scene; there will also be a weekly changing pitch for London’s very best chefs to showcase their new offerings and to bring to life new recipe books and restaurant concepts.
Druid St is committed to providing locals and visitors alike with a one-stop-shop where they can buy high-quality essentials as well as innovative new products and where possible, Druid St will draw on local producers and artisans to bring together a creative food community.
Druid St market will run every Saturday from 9am – 4pm, with a view to extending to Sunday trading, and can be found on Facebook via www.facebook.com/druidst and on Twitter at https://twitter.com/DruidSt
