If you’ve been meaning to find a local sports club since you moved to South London, or if exercise is one of your new year resolutions let Go Mammoth do the work for you (although not the actual exercise I’m afraid). They offer a huge variety of team sports including volleyball, football and touch rugby. I started playing in the netball league back in October and have really had a great time. Let’s just get this clear, I am definitely a novice. I went to a few training sessions whilst at uni, mainly so I could join the socials. This is not a problem so don’t let it put you off. You can join as a full team or be ‘set-up’ with fellow team mates and leagues start from the recreational to the experienced. There are lots of leagues around South London, including Clapham, Balham and Stockwell. My netball games are handily located for post match drinks in the Windmill!
Go Mammoth really do take care of it all, you just turn up and play with all equipment and referees supplied, they even hold regular socials. From my experience other teams have all been friendly and games have a relaxed atmosphere, which is exactly what we signed up for when we joined the ‘recreational’ league. The ref’s even offer half time tips, which for our team has been much needed! So if you’ve been thinking about getting back into, or starting a new team sport, this is a great way to get involved.
