Day 10 – #20Days20Dinners
Pratts & Payne in Streatham takes it’s name from the sorely missed department store and the infamous Cynthia Payne. It landed in Streatham with a bang a year or so ago, bringing a much needed good pub to the heart of a growing young community. The creation of the Antic group, who are also responsible for other favourites of mine, Balham Bowls Club and the Effra Social to name a few. Like these other pubs the theme is very much vintage at Pratts with a real eclectic mix of furniture and fittings.
In addition to a top quiz on Wednesday nights and a beer garden for the summer months, their Sunday roasts are one of their strengths so what better way to spend the half way point of #20days20dinners. As there was a group of us we booked ahead and got a great cosy table in the restaurant (you can get food in the main bar but no table service there). Between us both the lamb, beef and belly pork roasts were ordered with thumbs up all round. We were even able to submit preferences for rare beef. Portion sizes are good and all roasts are served with huge yorkshire puds, now that’s what I’m talking about!
Finding room for desert I opted for the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice-cream, a fail safe in the pudding world. The cheese board was also ordered and was a generous platter of a variety of cheeses.
With welcoming staff and a relaxed atmosphere Pratts & Payne is definitely recommended as a Sunday afternoon staple. A tip for you – go later in the evening and the left over roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings are placed on the bar for free snacking pleasure!
