We recently went to the launch night of Fancy Funkin Chicken on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton. Located near the heart of Brixton, this Chicken Shop/Bar is set to be a cool addition to, not only the restaurant scene, but also the nightlife of Brixton. The interior of the place has an American speak-easy feel to it with its dark settings, exposed brickwork and booths. The place was already buzzing when we got there, with a DJ spinning some tunes to set a lively mood for the evening (DJ will be there every Thursday to Sunday).
As the name suggests, the menu is dominated by chicken and we were able to try all the varying degrees of heat of their wings. I can warn you now, the ‘I can’t feel my funkin face hot wings’ are not for the faint-hearted. If wings aren’t your thing they are some chicken breast burgers to get your hands on. A range of American sides are available including corn bread, which I can’t say I had tried before, but I was a big fan. We were treated to some bite-size doughnuts to finish things off; I can only say I wish they hadn’t been bite-size – haha. We also got to sample the cocktail menu, including a take on a Long Island Iced Tea, which is a personal favourite of mine – nice!
Even if you don’t fancy a bite to eat, it’s definitely worth a visit to try out the cocktails and is a great place to start your night. All in all, a cracking little addition to the ever growing food and drink scene in Brixton.
