A friend had been raving about this small Thai restaurant in Market Row, shortly after which I read a review on Eat In Brixton and noticed it had been shortlisted in their top four restaurants in Brixton. Time to check it out then. Luckily I had the foresight to book as four of us went along on a Friday night and it’s pretty tiny. We were sat inside but there is also extra seating out the front of the restaurant, although still within the cover of market row.
Yum D, like the perhaps more famous Thai of the Village Khao Sarn, is BYO which is a bonus in my book. You can opt for drinks from the various local off licences or perhaps a better choice is nearby Market Row Wines.
The staff at Yum D are friendly if a tad blunt, making it clear they want you to order asap. As a small business I can understand their need to get punters in and out in a speedy manner, especially on a Friday night. That being said we had starters and mains and didn’t feel particularly rushed, Brixton Village and Market Row are not generally places you go to for long, lingering meals.
I went for the tom yum pad thai for my main course, not incredibly adventurous I know, but I just really do love pad thai and this version was great. The beef Gang Gari, which is similar to Massaman curry but hotter, was also a hit.
Pleased to say that the restaurant lived up to the hype, I’ll be returning for sure.
