We were recently invited along to the Coach & Horses pub to try out their renowned pizzas. The pub is located where Acre Lane meets Clapham Park Road so easily reached whether you are based in Brixton or Clapham. It is a pretty decent sized pub with a classic feel to it, with the bar located bang in the middle of the pub. Another bonus is the pub has a large projector showing sport regularly, which has become somewhat a rarity in pubs these days, so it definitely gets a thumbs up from me on that front.
While I enjoyed watching Leicester City play in the Champions League, that was not the reason for our visit. We’d come to try out the pizzas and, unlike Leicester, they did not disappoint. Their pizzas are made just the way I like them, thin based with a really crispy crust. I went for the Nduja pizza which was a winner, while my friend went for the Serrano ham pizza. She was nice enough to let me try a slice and it was equally as good as mine.
I was trying to be healthy on that day so attempted to resist the doughnuts with melted Nutella, but gave in to temptation, a decision I have to say I didn’t regret. The wine list was very good with house wine at £17 a bottle and they have an extensive list of craft beers too (£4.00-4.50), some of which come from as close as Brixton.
The Coach & Horses is definitely worth a visit for the pizzas alone – prices range from £8.50-11.50 and they have a 2 for 1 deal on Mondays. However, with the big screen showing all the big games and the great range of craft beers and wines on offer, this pub definitely has a winning combo.
