As part of Septembers spotlight on Crystal Palace we went along to Church Road restaurant The Crystal Palace Market. With adjoining fishmonger and butcher, The Crystal Palace Market focus on fresh, quality ingredients prepared simply.
Taking advantage of the very reasonable mid-week lunch deals we had two courses for £17, you can add an extra course for £2 more. Starters of Oysters and Chicken Broth with Croutons were prepared on view in the open kitchen, with the oysters being taken from the well stocked fish counter which takes pride of place in front of the kitchen. The broth providing warming comfort in our declining climate had plentiful chunks of chicken and the croutons were delicious. Oysters too were fabulous.
For the main course we both opted for the fish of the day, which was seabass and came with fries and side salad. Seasoned and grilled to enhance the flavour of the delicious fish this was a plentiful portion and represented good value for money.
If seafoods not your thing then fear not, there’s plentiful meat options on the menu including a range of burgers, which are a cheaper option when the lunch deal isn’t in place. The menu also includes a couple of decent vegetarian options.
With monochrome floor tiles and salvaged wood wall paneling, the food delivers on what the look promises. Listen out for the audio books which play in the bathrooms, spooky!
