On Saturday evening we headed over to Deptford to visit Festa sul Prato. Thanks to my Italian heritage I can tell you this translates to ‘feast on the meadow’. True to its name, this beautiful restaurant/café is based in Folkestone Gardens, just round the corner from Deptford Park. It truly is a lovely setting and a great location, which will be an absolute hotspot in the summer months. The food is Italian and they change the menu monthly in accordance with their locally sourced seasonal vegetables.
Sourcing local produce appeared to be a theme of the restaurant, as we began our evening with a couple of Brockley Brewery Pale Ales. For starters, my friend had the pea and pancetta soup which he said was delicious. I went for the fishcakes and had the same opinion as my friend on the starter as they really hit the spot.
For main I went for the risotto primavera, which was done to perfection and the portion size was really good for a big eater like myself. My friend went for the pork chop and lentils; I couldn’t just take his word on this one for the taste, so had to try it for myself and it was so succulent. Couldn’t resist the dessert menu so we decided to split the brownie to finish off and we didn’t regret the decision.
I have to hold my hands up and say we don’t get out this way often enough but we’ll definitely be coming back to this place. Deptford really is an area on the up and we hope more places like this will be popping up soon. As mentioned, Festa will be absolutely buzzing in the summer as it benefits from a good amount of outside seating and all the doors can be opened up give an al fresco feel. They also do a monthly ‘Festa Feast’ where they take inspiration from one region in Italy to provide a one-night feast that’s very reasonably priced at £25 for 4 courses.
