You might associate Revolution bars more with vodka fuelled nights out than tasty Italian lunches, I did too. However after I was invited along to the Richmond branch of this national chain of bars I had my head turned. I’ll admit I was sceptical as to whether the new summer menu could deliver on it’s promise but I was pleasantly surprised as to what I found on my recent visit.
Firstly the look and feel of this venue, in the heart of Richmond, was great on a sunny Friday afternoon. Light and airy downstairs with modern decor throughout and an absolute stunner of a roof terrace. With a number of booths lining the terrace the view is out to the river, which on a sunny day you can’t really beat.
The food we tried on our visit was from the new summer Italian specials menu and we were told that these were made with top quality, fresh ingredients, a new direction for the chain. Between three of us we tried the Lobster Ravioli (£10.95), N’Duja Gnocchi (£9.95) and Margherita Napoli (£10.95). All dishes were great and the focus on ingredients shone through. Except for the pizza which was very large (not complaining!), the dishes were the perfect size for lunch. Another sign that ingredients are the focus here, instead of large portions and low quality.
I was also impressed to see a courgetti dish on the menu, a lighter, healthier option which I feel increasingly more people are seeking. With a bottle of Chardonnay at £17 alongside the food I feel this was a value for money lunch.
So forget your preconceptions and give Revolution Richmond a go, especially if you can get a seat on that coveted terrace.
