Despite having heard good things about their food, until recently I’d only briefly popped into The Manor Arms Streatham, and I’ve been living in the area for three years! So I was pretty happy when an invitation arrived in my inbox one Wednesday when my weekend plans had up until then consisted of money saving nights in.
So it was that I ended up at this gastro pub on a Friday evening.
As is tradition, squid was on the menu, so that was my starter sorted. The Manor Arms serve the salt and pepper variety with a sweet chilli sauce. The chicken wings were also ordered to start and with lashings of sauce were finger lickin’ good.
Decisions on mains were a little slower to come by but we eventually settled on a shortcrust pastry pie with chicken, leek and bacon and sirloin steak with chunky chips. Sometimes there’s just no need to mess with the classics, especially when it comes to pub food. Although I was tempted by the pizzas which sounded good, with Bravi Rigazzi just up the road I couldn’t.
To finish, a rich but lovely dark chocolate cheesecake, with strawberry ganache.
The Manor Arms is a lovely local pub, and if you’re in the Streatham area it’s well worth getting acquainted with. As well as having a separate dining area with a high standard of food served, they show the football and have a large selection of real ales – so appeal to a wide audience.
