For quality steak Santa Maria is hard to beat and was once featured on Gordon Ramsay’s best restaurant’s. The fact that it’s an independent makes the pull stronger and that it’s often full despite it’s off the beaten track location is testament to Santa Maria’s popularity. A great date venue if you want to impress, not stuffy but smart with an air of class. You can see the chefs at work, cooking meat on the huge open grill.
I tried the Morron Asado (grilled red peppers) and Empanadas (Argentine pasties) which were tasty and a nice light start to a very filling main! A steak based sharer for two which consisted of a rump and a ribeye steak, two argentine-style sausages, black pudding and provolone cheese which all arrived on a mini table top grill. All delicious and topped off with garlic and parsley chips, not necessary but recommended! I even found room for an ice-cream and Ameretto based desert, which is a personal favourite and this one didn’t disappoint.
Santa Maria is highly recommended for great steak, excellent service and with it’s authentic Argentine feel and live music on a Monday I think it stands out from others serving steak.
