Stane Street Syndicate

O’Neils in Clapham Common has had a make-over and it is much improved! The newly named Stane Street Syndicate still provides pub grub with TV screens on the walls for sport but it feels more like its neighbor, Bison and Bird. It still probably isn’t somewhere you should take a first date but the atmosphere is nice, there is table service for food and when it comes to the warmer months there is a garden out the back.

In order to give a full and honest review I obviously had to try a lot of the menu so my guest and I started with the vegetarian sharing plate. This consisted of grilled halloumi, mini lentil and humus burgers (which were the best part), nachos and most interestingly, tempura veg. I had never had deep fried cauliflower before but apparently it’s quite popular in the West Country. It was all very nice and we felt quite full after just that.

We powered on and for mains ordered the chicken Caesar salad and a chorizo and grilled halloumi burger. Both were good and we had no complaints but they weren’t the best versions of those dishes we had ever had. We were there on a Tuesday when you can get 2-4-1 on burgers a great deal to help keep costs down. The burger selection was big with the added option of making your own. If you were meeting a group of friends for a catch up on a Tuesday then this would certainly fit the bill, especially near the end of the month pre-pay day.

For desert we went for ‘The Threesome’ (obviously just for the chance to try more of the deserts in order to write this review!) but sadly they had run out of the cookies and cream ice cream. Not to worry though, they gave us double brownie instead and after that we were stuffed! It was all nicely washed down with a bottle of Shiraz and we waddled home very content.

Overall, great for groups of friends either on a weekday or at the weekend and I can image it gets particularly busy when there is sport on. The food is a fair price and there is a good selection of both snacks, mains and drinks.
