Our guest blogger, Sam, went along to Borough Market to taste some ice cream for us.
“I love ice-cream! So, when I was asked to represent South London Blog at an anniversary-cum-launch at 3BIS, an Italian gelateria in the heart of Borough Market, I agreed immediately.
The event took place last week at their shop in Park Street, well-known as a film and advert backdrop, to celebrate the 5th birthday of 3BIS and launch a brand-new product available in the expanding 3BIS shops: the Chocoshot. This is a chocolate-coated wafer cup in different flavours: Red Velvet, Cheesecake, Nutty and Affogato. These can all be stuffed with the different ice creams.
Just for the launch, a selection of flavours had been created with ingredients sourced in Borough Market: Honey Custard, and Amarelli Liquorice, Parmesan Gelato, and Basil Sorbet along with the signature birthday flavour, Pane e Nella: whole grain sourdough bread gelato with crunchy toasted bread bites and hazelnut chocolate spread. The local suppliers of the ingredients were: Turnips, From Field and Flower, Emilia, Sweet Roots and Bead Ahead.
My friend and I arrived just after 6 o’clock expecting there to be fewer people, but when we arrived there were already lots of guests queuing for a taste of the Chocoshots, the specially selected gourmet ice creams and the signature birthday flavour. It was a very friendly and lively event, with incredibly helpful staff. As well as the ice cream there were drinks and some small savoury snacks/canapés.
We tried several of the Chocoshots – the ice cream is delicious and we both liked the chocoshot idea, an edible, environmentally-friendly cup. It’s just right for a filling post-prandial dessert with coffee, or after a walk around Borough Market. Oh, and they also do lovely cakes, pastries and crepes too.
Next time we go to Borough Market, we’ll definitely be going back to the 3BIS gelateria for coffee and a chocoshot.”
