Feria de Londres – Southbank

I love Spain, and one of my best ever holidays was a tour of Andalucia taking in Seville, Cordoba, Granada and Cadiz. I have fond memories of the many amazing sights we saw and, of course, the many tapas bars we visited. Well, this coming bank holiday weekend, Spain and in particular Andalucia, comes back to the Southbank, in the aptly named Bernie Spain Gardens near the Oxo Tower, for the Feria de Londres.

Andalucia’s finest

Spring Fairs are a tradition going back centuries and are huge events in many towns and cities of Spain. At the Feria de Londres you’ll be able to experience a flavour of this tradition as the gardens will be lined with colourful stalls serving authentic food and drink from Spain. In particular, there’ll be tastings of Andalucia’s finest sherry with sponsors Tio Pepe, who’ve invited us along to one of their tasting masterclasses which will be taking place over the wekend.

Me apetece el jamon iberico (OK, I learned that in Spanish class last week!)

So, plenty of Iberico ham in prospect, along with pimientos de padron, tortillas, croquetas and of course churros, along with cold Spanish beers and cocktails including the Tio Pepe Rebujito – fino sherry, lemonade and fresh mint on the rocks – I’m seriously looking forward to this!

Sevillana dancers

It’s not only a festival of food and drink though – there’s also Sevillana dance lessons, flamenco rhythm workshops, and loads of family-friendly activities, with face painting, hair styling, and arts and crafts. Dance group performances of flamenco and live bands will get a party atmosphere going, while a DJ will get everyone dancing.
